I just had to write to you and express my delight in the results I have experienced with your products, especially Boat Scrub and VS721.
My wife and I spend our summers fishing the southern Baja peninsula on our Boston Whaler 235 Conquest. Since there are few launch facilities in the area, the boat stays in the water on a mooring during our two month stay. Despite this extended exposure in the water, I'm reluctant to use antifouling paint on the boat because of the mess, expense, and loss of fuel economy associated with bottom paints.
At the conclusion of our trips, the bottom of the boat would be stained with algae and barnacle growth which would take several hours to blast away with a high pressure sprayer. Besides the hassle of this laborious cleanup, I was informed by a fellow boater that exposing the bare fiberglass hull to seawater for two months at a time invited gelcoat failure due to blistering.
That's when I decided that I need to do something about the bottom of the boat. At first I was resigned to paint the bottom and I had made all the arrangements to sand, prime, and coat the hull with expensive and toxic paint. In a last-ditch effort to avoid this irreversible process, I did a search on the internet for anti-fouling paint alternatives and discovered VS721 which claimed to reduce bio-fouling AND prevent gelcoat blistering! I had to give it a try.
I followed your instructions to first clean and prep the hull with Aurora Boat Scrub. It took a bit of elbow grease and patience to completely buff out the hull with this product but I was amazed at how smooth and shiny-white the hull was at the end of this step. This was followed by two applications of VS721 which went on easily and buffed off quickly. I had to jack the boat up off of the trailer bunks one side at a time to get at every inch of the hull and after applying the VS721, the hull was so slippery that I was worried about the boat sliding off of the trailer!
At the end of last year's fishing season, I pulled the boat and was simply astounded by how little biofouling had accumulated on the VS721-treated hull after two months in the water. Cleanup only required a quick swab down with a sponge dampened with Boat Clean Plus. In less than an hour I was done and the hull was gleaming white again. Wow!
Thanks for an amazing product and I am so pleased that I found out about VS721 before I resorted to painting the bottom of my boat. Our "baby" will never go back into the water again without VS721 on the bottom.
Sincerely,
