What is the Best UV Protection for Canoes?
Tim H asked:
I am checking with you regarding the best UV protection for canoes made of the older Royalex or the replacement material T-Formex.
Both are an ABS type layup with a vinyl skin (interior & exterior).
The primary concern would be the exterior primarily for canoes stored outside upside down.
Which is more effective for canoes: Vinyl Guard or VS721?
For UV protection and gliding through water?
Thank you.

Clean first with Boat Clean Plus (if you have scuffs or grime or stains that won’t come out with Boat Clean Plus, mix a 50/50 solution of Boat Clean Plus and Boat Scrub to get that out). When the surface is pristine, apply 2 coats of Poly Guard and after 24 to 48 hours apply VS721. This will give you maximum protection against UV, make clean up and maintenance much easier and give you the performance benefit that you want (better glide per stroke, less paddle fatigue and better speed).
Thanks for your question,
