Is Algex Safe to Use on Non-Aluminum Surfaces?

  Skipper

David H asked:

On my tritoons I have a black coating covering half of the upper part of each toon and then the lower half the aluminum is exposed.

Can I put the Algex on that black coating as well or just the aluminum? Thanks.

Answer:

For your convenience, I’ve highlighted the hyperlinks. Click on the hyperlink to get more information about the selected product.

Algex® is often used to safely remove algae from factory painted, powder coated or epoxy, surfaces as well as raw aluminum. Different pontoon manufacturers use different materials to coat and color their aluminum boats; different paints and even vinyl wrapping, so the only way to determine if Algex® is safe is to test first. I suggest doing the test on a small section of the inside of the pontoon where it will be inconspicuous. If the test is successful, you can then use Algex® on the rest of the pontoon.

Thanks for your question,
