How to remove tannin stains from my deck?
Doug H asked:
The first time I used Sure Step, I completed the job and within days some leaves landed on the deck and left tannin stains that would not come off using your Boat Scrub and then I needed to use oxyclean, shout, starbrite deck cleaner and a pressure washer.
Why wouldn’t your system stop the staining?

Hi Doug,
Tannin, also known as Tea Stain because it’s in tea, will stain everything, including porcelain, glass, stainless steel, gelcoat, and even Sure Step. The person that invents a successful coating that prevents tannin stain, will probably become a Billionaire. It’s a major problem for everyone and there are no good solutions.
We invented a product called Waterline Stain Remover® to remove tannin stains from gelcoat along the waterline and bottom of the boat that works very well. But still, we don’t have anything that will prevent the staining from occurring.
Wear protective gloves, clothing and eye protection when using this product. Carefully brush on Waterline Stain Remover® to the stained areas, being careful not to get it on stainless steel, aluminum or vinyl that may be adjacent to the stained areas. Let it work for about 20 minutes, keeping it wet with the product and then rinse it clean. That will get the stain out.
You will then have to clean these areas with Boat Scrub® and re-apply Sure Step®.
If possible, keep your boat covered to prevent this from reoccurring.
Thanks for your question,
Captain Aurora
