Bottom Coat, difference between VS721 and Dragon Fire
Don Sedlar asked:
What is the difference between dragon fire and VS721 Bottomcoat. We have been using bottom coat for years, seen dragon fire for a much cheaper price. Was wondering if it is as effective. Very happy with how easy the boat is to clean with vs721 Bottom coat, just wondering if dragon fire is as effective

Both VS721 and Dragon Fire use the VS721 polymer and have similar properties. The difference is that Dragon Fire is made especially for racing whereas VS721 is better at fouling release.
Dragon Fire is not as durable but will provide better drag reduction and will give better speed and performance. Hard core boat racers don’t care about how often the need to re-apply the coating, as long as it gives them a better chance at winning. Some racers apply Dragon Fire before every race.
VS721 is intended to last all season and also to seal the pores against osmosis blisters. It also provides performance enhancement properties, but not to the same extent that Dragon Fire does.
The bottom line: If you’re racing go with Dragon Fire. If not, stay with VS721. Both require cleaning and prep with Boat Scrub for best performance and durability.
